Luxury home converted from stables goes to auction

A Warrawee home originally built as stables in the 1920s has hit the market with an auction guide of $3.8 million.

Completely renovated since then, the property that now sits at 5 Winton St is a five-bedroom, four-bathroom house on just over 1700 sqm. It has however had a few of the stable’s features retained, including the original barn doors.

Current owners Patrick and Georgia Cocquerel bought the property in 2005 but Ms Cocquerel had actually grown up in the home with her family in the early 1980s and the couple had celebrated their engagement there.

“It is just an experience to live here, a home like no other,” said Mrs Cocquerel.

“There is lush green scenery from every window you look out of, it is its own little sanctuary.”

The stables’ original owner resided in one of the neighbouring properties with the stables on title. He subdivided the land in the early 1900s and sold the stables.

Mrs Cocquerel said previous owners included an interior designer, followed by a well-renowned author, concert pianist, musicians and actors.

Other design features which hint at the original use and history of the property include exposed black timber beams and original brickwork in the entrance gallery.

The sandstone outdoor fireplace now barbecue is where the blacksmith once made the horses’ shoes.

The kitchen and formal dining behind the entrance gallery on the ground floor were the actual stables said Mrs Cocquerel, while hay was kept in the current home’s formal living area.

She said her son’s bedroom above the gallery and dining room was where the stable hands lived.

“The beauty of living here is we all love coming together yet we have our own space so we don’t live on top of each other. One person can be playing the piano while another is studying.”

Outside, the home now features a Gordon Sykes garden design reinstated by the Cocquerels.

Located 500m from Warrawee station and 800m from Turramurra village and station. The home enjoys proximity to a selection of local schools.

No. 5 Winton St Warrawee is listed by Tim Fraser of Di Jones Real Estate Wahroonga and will be auctioned on December 2.
