Michael’s paternal grandmother is Coreen Faye Johnston (the daughter of Clement Thomas Johnston and Sophie Virovoy). Coreen was born in Connecticut. Clement was the son of Canadian parents, John Thomas Johnston, whose parents were from Scotland and Ireland, respectively, and Mary Ellen Power/Powers. Sophie was the daughter of Eastern European immigrants, who were likely of Ukrainian descent, John Virovoy and Julia Wolf/Wowchuk.
Michael’s maternal grandfather was David Boyd Sigmon (the son of Charles/Charlie Gordon Sigmon and Lida Mae Rhyne). David was born in Lincoln County, North Carolina, and had deep roots in the state. He was of mostly German and English ancestry. Charles was the son of Thornton Alonzo Sigmon and Alice Luetta McGinnis. Lida was the daughter Robert Edward Rhyne and Sarah Caroline Smith.
