Pascoe Vale fire: Man, 65, dies after Rhodes Parade blaze
A man has died in hospital after a suspicious fire destroyed a home in Melbourne’s northern suburbs.
Police believe the man, who was 65 years old and from the south eastern Melbourne suburb of Chelsea, lit the fire himself.
Early reports suggest he had formerly been in a relationship with the woman who resided there.
The man was rushed to hospital with what Ambulance Victoria described as serious injuries on Tuesday, but died at the Alfred Hospital overnight.
On Tuesday, police said emergency services responded to calls a window had been smashed and a house was on fire on Rhodes Pde, Pascoe Vale, before 5am.
A spokesperson for Fire Rescue Victoria said the blaze took less than twenty minutes to contain, with firefighters also assisting people from neighbouring units to escape.
Police continue to investigate the fire, and will prepare a report for the coroner.
